Amenities/Facilities

The Kirk’s amenities can be used to enhance your events.

Clergy and Event Management Cover

For all our services and events, the Kirk’s experienced management team is on hand. We will engage and advise you to ensure that where possible your requirements can be incorporated. At concerts we arrange volunteer stewards and caterers as required.

Staging

Twenty 2 x 1 metre platforms are available for use as staging with orchestras, choirs and plays. These can provide single or multi-flat or tiered platform configurations to suit requirements within the Kirk.

Sound system

Installed in 2016, state of the art sound system ensures everyone in the Kirk can hear the spoken word and pre-recorded music. Not suitable for instrument mixing or amplification.

3 Phase Electricity

Power sockets are available in all four corners of the building for events requiring 3 phase (32 amp) electricity.

Kitchen

This is situated under the organ with direct access to the sanctuary. No cooking facilities but ideal as a preparation space.  Hot water, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and bench space.

Access

No steps to enter/exit main ground floor.  Wheelchair accessible.

Parking

Limited available for key organisers, VIPs by prior arrangement only.

Seating capacities/Licences and Insurance

The Kirk has a City of Edinburgh Council Performing Entertainment Licence (PEL) and a Market Operators’ Licence.

The performance licence allows a maximum capacity of 600 inside the Kirk (including performers/staff). A comfortable capacity for concerts is 350* for East End and 300* for West End performances. Sight lines can be obstructed by pillars and other fittings. For fairs, 35 tables are permitted. For social events, 100-200* are ideal numbers for a sit-down reception (10-20 round/square tables).

The Kirk has public liability insurance. The Kirk does not possess an alcohol licence.

*These numbers are indicative only. Depending on the specific event requirements, capacities will be agreed with the Operations Manager and organiser.
