Marriages, Renewals & Blessings

The Ministry Team and the Kirk Session are pleased to make the services and the facilities of Greyfriars Kirk available to any couple who wish to have a Christian wedding service to celebrate their marriage.

If you are interested in getting married at Greyfriars, please see our wedding booklet for more information- it contains an outline of what you can expect from us, what services we offer, and a full price list.

Please contact the office via with a completed Provisional Booking Form, giving an outline of any possible dates you have in mind. In order to confirm a booking, you will need to pay a deposit and arrange a vestry appointment with our Ministry team.

Although we are also able to take bookings for wedding receptions, we regret that we cannot hold your wedding ceremony and reception on the same day.

Despite being an Affirming Congregation, we very much regret that we are not authorised to conduct same-sex marriages, as the Church of Scotland has not approved its ministers doing so. We can provide advice on alternative arrangements.

As a parish church, we will always agree to conduct a funeral when people ask. Whilst funeral costs can be very high, there is no charge for the services of a minister of the Church of Scotland. However, if a funeral takes place within the church there is a discretionary charge for the use of the building and the services of an organist.

As the parish church most closely associated with Edinburgh University, we are also very happy to accommodate services for members of the university community.

Commemorations & Memorials

Greyfriars is a wonderful setting for an act of worship when we wish to remember those who have passed on. We are always open to having a conversation about helping people to mark and give thanks for the lives of their loved ones.

The gift of a new child is always a moment of celebration and gratitude and a profound responsibility. The ministry team at Greyfriars are always happy to discuss the possibility of baptism, as a sign of our desire to nurture our children in the light of faith. Baptism normally takes place at a Sunday service, and there is no charge for this.
