Actus Tragicus
Roderick Williams is one of the UK’s most sought-after baritones and is constantly in demand on the concert platform and in recital.
We are thrilled that he is joining Dunedin Consort for the second of our commissioned pieces, the premiere of David Fennessy’s ‘Bog Cantata’. But first we open with Czech composer Jan Dismas Zelenka, followed by Telemann, and then Bach.
Pulled from an Irish bog in 2006, the Faddan More Psalter serves as the inspiration for a new cantata from David Fennessy that uses similar orchestration to the unusual forces of this evening’s other three cantatas. Pairs of recorders, cellos, and violas da gamba take centre stage, sharing the limelight with four outstanding soloists, in music that reflects on life and death.
