a beautiful, landmark building in the heart of the city
Events
How can I book an event?
Though we are first and foremost a worshipping church, Greyfriars is also available as a space for hire. As an iconic building in the very centre of Edinburgh, and with stunning acoustics, Greyfriars is highly sought after by some of the biggest orchestras and choirs in Scotland and the UK – we’ve been hired by The Sixteen, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, The Hebrides Ensemble. National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, Edinburgh Royal Choral Union and the Edinburgh International Festival.
We also take bookings for wedding receptions, ceilidhs, private parties, conferences, recordings and exhibitions – see below for more details.
All private and public events must be booked via Steve Lister, our Operations Manager. Click here to learn more about the booking process.
How can I tell if my date for an event is available at the Kirk?
Please visit our events calendar to see if the date you desire is currently booked. If the date is free, please visit the “Hire Us” section of the website to learn more about booking your event.
Visiting Greyfriars
What are the opening times for the Kirk?
The Kirk, the Story of Greyfriars Museum and shop are normally open to the general public Monday – Friday (10.30-16.30) and Saturday (12.00-16.00) from April – October. However, due to special events in the Kirk, these dates and times may change. Please check the Kirk website before your visit to ensure that we are open.
What are the Kirkyard hours?
Greyfriars Kirk actually does not own the surrounding Kirkyard. The Kirkyard is maintained and managed by the Edinburgh City Council. They currently allow access 24 hours a day via the Kirkyard gate on Candlemaker Row.
