Third Sunday of the month at 7pm*

Refugio is a monthly evening gathering set in the context of silence, symbol and reflective prayer. It takes its name from the shelters where pilgrims, walking the medieval route to Santiago de Compostela stop and find rest on their journey. Refugio is a stopping place for today’s pilgrims, away from the bustle of everyday life, away from many words and much doing, to a quieter, more reflective space, in which we can be nourished by bread and wine.
Refugio is a reflective, quiet space in which you are invited to stop, and listen, and to simply be with God.
At the outset, you will be led in a stilling practice that helps set aside the busyness and concerns of the day and enables you to become aware of who you are and of what you are feeling and experiencing, in that moment.
Refugio makes no demands, there is no expectation to sing hymns or listen to a sermon, but provides a safe opportunity for you to engage in a short period of silence in community with others following a led reflection. It closes with an informal Eucharist of bread and wine together.
It was founded upon the insights of St Ignatius of Loyola that teach active attentiveness to God and our response to what he is saying.
The emphasis is on stillness, listening and reflection enabling us to engage in a deeper journey with God.
Refugio takes place in Greyfriars monthly, on each third Sunday at 19.00. There is no Refugio in July or August.
