Here at Greyfriars, we rely on the support and dedication of our members, friends and supporters, to continue doing all that we do.
Within the Kirk, we have various voluntary groups, including, but not limited to, a flower team, catering team, a choir, tech team, kirk welcomers and a small team focussed on youth activities. It is easy to take for granted, the work these groups put in to keeping us at our best. Which is why on Sunday 20 November, we honoured some of our long serving members during our Sunday Service.
50 years ago, Isobel Hutchings and Margaret Wallace joined Greyfriars Kirk Choir, and continue to lend their time and voices every Sunday. Both of these women are involved in various other aspects of the Kirk. They are also valued members of the flower and catering teams, making sure that the Kirk is always blooming beautiful for the congregation and our visitors through the week and ensuring those attending Sunday worship are fed and watered with teas, coffees and biscuits.
Each of them have given us 50 years of service and we will always be grateful that they choose to give the Kirk so much of their time.
We also took time to thank and honour both Arran Finlay and Lesley Stewart, who have spent 35 years running the Youth Activities Programme. It is well known that encouraging young people into the church has become increasing difficult but thanks to these individuals, we know that children and young people are treated as important members of our community.
Our younger visitors are a crucial part of what we do, and we are delighted to welcome them.
Our recognition ceremony on Sunday included a presentation of Church of Scotland certificates, inscribed by our very own Clem Bradley (flower team member and calligrapher extraordinaire).
Once again, we’d like to thank Isobel Hutchings, Margaret Wallace, Arran Finlay and Lesley Stewart for their time and dedication over the years.
