Caroline Cradock studied Music at the University of Edinburgh, graduating with a BMus(Hons) in 1998. She went on to complete a PhD in early 18th-century French organ mass manuscripts (2007) which involved many research trips to Paris and various parts of Belgium. As an organist, Caroline has studied with Dr John Kitchen and Dr Anthony Hammond in Edinburgh, and Susan Landale in Paris.
Caroline has been Director of Music of a number of churches in Edinburgh, including Christ Church, Morningside from 2000 to 2005. From 2005 to 2023 she was Assistant Organist of St John’s Episcopal Church, Edinburgh. This included a stint as Interim Director of Music from October 2018 to April 2019. She has also directed the choir on a number of Cathedral visits to sing the services at Hexham and Ripon and accompanied them in services at Durham Cathedral and York Minster.
Caroline has recently become a freelance organist and choral director. Since October 2023 she has been Organist and Choirmaster of Greyfriars Kirk in Edinburgh, as well as being Director of Springwell Golden Voices, who meet in Craiglockhart Parish Church. She has been accompanist to the Garleton Singers in East Lothian since December 2018, accompanying them in a wide range of music which this year included Verdi’s Requiem, Whitbourn’s ‘The Seven Stars’, and a summer concert of ‘Songs from the Shows’. She also teaches composition and history of music to senior pupils at St Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh.
